Ruth Etta (Wescott) Lauffer-Bowes 83, a 5-year resident of Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville, PA died peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, while cuddling her stuffed Lamb Chop.

The second daughter of Alice Leticia (Ramp) and Ellis Oliver Wescott of Geneva, PA, was born at the home of her grandparents, Cyrus and Jessie Wescott on Aug. 31, 1933 in Geneva, where her family lived until Ruth was about the age of 9.

Ruth's middle name, Etta was chosen in honor of Ruth's grandmother Julia Etta Ramp.

Ruth married Lawrence W. Lauffer on May 12, 1951 in Geneva (divorced in 1964). After several separations and finally an extremely bitter divorce, Ruth vindictively and legally changed her only son’s name from Lawrence Jr. to John Oliver Lauffer.

On June 12, 1978, she re-married (also in Geneva), Richard (Dick) Arden Bowes of Chicago, IL (formerly of Saegertown).

Ruth was employed as a waitress in many local restaurants (Isaly's of Conneaut Lake, Silver Shores, Iroquois Club, Hour Glass, and the Mark) and then with Molded Fiber Glass, Inc., of Linesville until 1978, when she married Dick and moved to Chicago, IL.

Originally, Ruth and Dick retired in Punta Gorda, FL but in 1994 moved to the city of Avon Park, FL.

Ruth was a movie star enthusiast (Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton topped her list)! She loved music and played guitar, piano, and organ. She enjoyed a wide range of music from Gospel to Country to Contemporary. Back in the day, Ruth lived to travel and shop! Her life always revolved around the latest fashions, cosmetics, and hairstyles!

Due to alcoholism, Ruth had a split personality. Everyone either absolutely LOVED her or absolutely HATED her, (nothing in between). Her second husband, Dick was the best thing that ever happened to Ruth and her personality leveled out during their 20 year marriage.

Ruth was a colon cancer survivor (early 1990s), then in her later years she suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Beginning January 2012, Ruth lead a very happy, worry free and safe life at Rolling Fields Nursing Home (no housework, no laundry, no cooking, etc.). Every day was a "Play Day" and Ruth went to their Day Care 2 or 3 times per week to color and play with the children. Her crayons, coloring books, and stuffed animal collection were donated to the Day Care.

In July 2014, Ruth fell, broke her hip, and had surgery. Ruth was given a stuffed Lamb Chop (as seen on this memorial) as a cuddling companion, so she would never be completely alone, and ever since Lamb Chop had been close by her side.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick) Bowes (cremated 1998 burial unknown); a sister, Evelyn Gertrude Rodgers; and a brother, Howard Oliver Wescott.

Ruth was survived by a son, John O. Lauffer(aka Lawrence, Jr. or Buddy), and wife, Martha (Tuny) of Conneaut Lake; three daughters, Shirley Kohler and husband, Terry of Linesville; Betty Doane and husband, Dean of Reynoldsville and Patty Strange, and husband, Kane of Lowell, FL; a brother, Ernst P. Wescott and wife, Claudia of Lake Havasu City, AZ; a sister-in-law, Candice Wescott of Riverside CA; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There were no calling hours. Arrangements were under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.

Ruth was buried (holding her precious Lamb Chop and "Pinky" her therapeutic vibrating stuffed pig) at Geneva Memorial Cemetery & Church (where she was married) along side her Dad, Ellis O. Wescott and where about 5 generations of her direct "Wescott" family line are also laid to rest .
