Clair Hamman Duncan, 81, of Fremont died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola, Indiana.

Mr. Duncan was born July 13, 1924, in Fremont to Pyrl A. and Merle (Hamman) Duncan. He first married Esther Abbott, and she died Oct. 4, 1975. He then married Katherine "Katie" Gary on Dec. 22, 1976, in Fremont, and she survives.

He was the former owner of the Standard Bulk Oil Plant in Fremont, and retired in 1981. He was also a self-employed carpenter and was a bus driver for Fremont Community Schools.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Fremont American Legion Cassel Post No. 257. His hobbies included fishing and woodworking. He was a 1942 graduate of Fremont High School.

He was survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Lee Vetsch of Glendale, Ariz., Jackie and Jim Skelton and Linda and Glen Foster, all of Fremont, and Angie and Mike Shaffer of Pleasant Lake; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Kay Duncan of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Betty Hill and Iris June Walter.

Services were held at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, with Scott Saltsman officiating. Burial was in Ray Cemetery, Fremont, with military services conducted by members of the Fremont American Legion.
