Glenn Dean Hubbartt, 78, Lincoln, died Monday (4/28/08) at his home. Born in Bloomfield, Iowa, (3/31/1930) the eldest son of Floyd O. and Leola A. (Rayburn) Hubbartt. Married to Nancy A. Backus on June 20, 1953, in Cranston, R.I. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1948 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy that same year. He worked as an Aircraft Mechanic and Flight Engineer. He served afloat on the USS MIDWAY, and ashore with assignments in Rhode Island, Texas, Hawaii and California as well as numerous overseas deployments to include combat service in Vietnam where he flew 39 combat missions earning him the Air Medal. After 22 years he retired from the Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Following his military career, he lived for many years in California and Iowa before becoming a 20-year resident of Lincoln.
Hubbartt is a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. From a young age he was active in Scouting and was awarded the 50-year service pin. He was an honorary Admiral in the Nebraska Navy conferred by Gov. Ben Nelson.
Preceded in death by brother Bill Hubbartt, formerly of Ottomwa, Iowa; son, Glenn Hubbartt Jr.. formerly of White City, Ore.
Memorial service: 3 p.m. Friday (5/2/08) at Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 O St. Chaplain Dennis Rock officiating. Interment will be in Watertown, N.Y., at a later date. No visitation/cremation.
