She was born March 20, 1925, in Waterloo, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Austin) Richards. Her father left when she was a few weeks old and two years later her mother married Clarence Brockway of Decatur who raised her. Elsie attended several schools as they moved in the area for farm work, and after they left the farm, the family moved to Decatur where she graduated from Decatur High School in 1943. She then worked at Eagleton's Department Store for a year.
In 1944 she married Paul Elliott and as he was a farmer, they lived on a farm north of Tekamah. They raised three children. Beverly, Lonnie and Larry. She was a homemaker and especially enjoyed cooking.
Memberships included First Baptist Church where she belonged to the American Baptist Women's Society, served on work groups and was a co-chairman of Rebecca Circle.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband on November 28, 1980; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Larry Dreeszen; granddaughter, Jennifer Elliott; and sister, Darlene Rich.
Rev. John A. Dennert officiated the rite. Music was provided by organist Juli Stone and vocalists Kevin Brenneis, Marilyn Morrow and Ed and Mary Ann Prussa.
Casket bearers were Paul Elliott, Brian Elliott, Steve Carr, Jeff Carr, Gus Grass and Russell Winnner.
Burial was in the Tekamah Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church and Tekamah Rescue Squad.
