W. S. Reid, 'Port Owner's Father, Dies

William S. Reid, 80, retired dairy farmer, and son of a woman who may have been the first Anglo-Saxon child born in California, died Tuesday after a long illness at his home, 10301 Seranno Court.
Reid, the father of Cecil R. Reid, owner of Reid-Hillview Airport here, had lived in San Jose 10 years.
He came here from Oakdale, where he operated a dairy farm. He was a 50-year member of Hope Lodge 33, IOOF, of Angel's Camp.
His mother, Elizabeth A. Gregson, was born at Sutter's Fort in 1846. Her father was a member of the second party which came across the plains in 1845.
Besides his son, Cecil, Reid leaves his widow, Magnhild; three other sons, Robert W. Reid, San Jose, Daniel G. Reid, Oakland and Raymond M. Reid, Stockton; a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Reid, San Jose; a brother, Robert M. Reid, Aromas; five sisters, Mrs. Bertha Seely, Los Gatos, Mrs. Alice Cox, Watsonville, Mrs. Olive Lipton, Watsonville, Mrs. Letitia Reid Oakes and Miss Lea Red, both of Redwood City, seven grandchildren and two great granchildren.
Services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. from Williams Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
