Clara was born the 2nd April 1874, the ninth child of thirteen born to Granville B. and Clarissa Hannah Hutchinson Mayfield. She married William Zurcher Jr. the 24th Dec. 1892 in Sheridan County, Nebraska. They had eight children; Robert Isaiah, Delbert Owsley, Katherine Louise Hessenthaler, Emma Elizabeth Judy, Lily Violet Zeller, Edmond James, and Clarissa "Belle" Hedglin. They divorced. She married Harvy A Porter the 27th June 1915 in Glasgow, Montana. She past away during childbirth in Springdale, Washington the 9th April 1920. An Infant Porter is buried in the same casket with her.
