Edward Scott Lindley

Edward Scott Lindley died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 in Fairfield, Calif. after a short but courageous battle against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Edward was born on Aug. 6, 1939 in Carroll County, Ind. He married Joann Hosimer Lindley on June 4, 1960. He graduated from Indiana Central College (now The University of Indianapolis) with a degree in biology and chemistry in 1962. He worked in food production for Stokley Van Camp, American Home Foods and Wine.com. In later years, he worked as a substitute teacher for students with special needs in Solano County, Calif. He also served on the Board of Directors for Mark’s Growing Center in Vacaville, Calif. and was a Yolo Hospice Volunteer. He was Volunteer of the Year for Mark’s Growing Center twice. He was named Father of the Year in LaPorte, Ind. He was a Stephens Minister at The United Methodist Church of Dixon. He was the recipient of the Yolo Hospice Volunteer of the Year Award and was named the Dixon Outstanding Senior of the Year in 2010. He was an avid runner and enjoyed participating in many races in the area. He carried the Olympic torch in 1996. He carried the torch for the Special Olympics of Solano County twice.

Edward was the father of five children, Jeffrey Scott Lindley (wife, Biody) of Anacoco, La., Marc Edward Lindley (wife, Ellen) of San Antonio, Texas, Bobbie Joann Stanfield (husband, Jeffrey) of Bremen, Ind., Lisa Marie Boyd (husband, Ashanti) of Fairfield, Calif., and Savannah Elizabeth Lindley of Dixon, Calif. He was the grandfather of 14 and the great-grandfather of 6. He was also the foster-father of 27 children in LaPorte, Ind.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Dixon, 209 N. Jefferson, Dixon, Calif. 95620. An interment ceremony will be held at Ball Hill Cemetery in Cutler, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to NorthBay Adult Day Center, 1020 Nut Tree Road, Vacaville, Calif. 95687; Dixon United Methodist Church, 209 N. Jefferson, Dixon, Calif. 95620 or Mark’s Growing Center c/o Yellow Brick Road, 315 Parker Street, Vacaville, Calif. 95688.
