Gladys Smith Atkins Mason, 90, of Cridersville, formerly of Vaughnsville, passed at 10:50 p.m. Feb. 12, 2013, at Shawnee Manor.
She was born May 26, 1922, in Pineville, Ky., to Elijah and Nellie Hoskins Smith, who preceded her in death. She married Carl P. Atkins on Nov. 29, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1969. She then married Robert L. Mason on July 1, 1974, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1977.
Mrs. Mason had been employed at DWG Cigar Factory and retired from Superior Metals. She was one of the early members of Lima Missionary Baptist Church. She was a wonderful homemaker, loving mother and grandmother to many generations.
Surviving are four children, Carl (Imogene) Atkins, of Cridersville, Bernard Atkins, of Lima, Darlene (Larry) Huffman, of New Bremen, and Beverly Mason, of Lima; and 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchild; stepchildren, Kathleen Mallazzo, Lauster Adkins, Charles Atkins; siblings, Rosie Jones, Ena Knuckles, Lorraine Martin, Sewell Smith, Thomas Smith and James Smith; and a son-in-law, Wayne Mason.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Lima Missionary Baptist Church. The Revs. Terry Brock and Denny Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
