Joseph Henry Umphress, age 73, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away at his residence on Tuesday January 31, 2006. He was born on August 11, 1932 in Magnolia, Putnam County, Illinois to Henry and Bertha Gilbert Umphress who preceded him in death.

Joseph was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and had worked in repair services for Eberle Hardware for 27 years and later for Sears.

He is survived by his wife Joan Bequeret Umphress of Bloomington; four sons, Joseph H. Umphress Jr., of Bloomington, Thomas W. Umphress of Spencer, Indiana, James S. Umphress, of Bedford, Indiana, William M. Umphress of Bloomington; a brother, Ivan Umphress of Streator, Illinois; two sisters, Laura Umphress Bennett of Lacon, Illinois, Doris Mae Umphress Reynolds of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home on February 3rd. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the Funeral Home. Cremation was performed by Allen Funeral Home and the ashes were given to the family for private deposition.
