Joseph J. Houston was the son of William M. and Susan A. Houston. The family moved from Missouri to Nemaha County, Kansas and then to Lexington Township, Johnson County, Kansas.
Joe had a plant/tree nursery and was a beekeeper. He married Christina Carolina Freeburg on April 29, 1881 in Olathe, Johnson, Kansas per "Kansas Marriages, 1840-1935".
Children of Joe and Christina Houston were: Frank Owen, John William, Arthur Marion, Della Clara, Walter Dale, Verl Raymond, Maude Melvina Houston married Rolland Whitehurst Abbott, and Maybel Mae Houston married Raymond Knelange.
Joseph J. Houston died in Humansville and was buried in De Soto on Sept. 4, 1909 per Newspaper Obituary.
According to "The Olathe Mirror" of Jan. 21, 1897 - under the byline of Cedar Junction, Kansas: 'Mrs. Houston, mother of Joe Houston, who lives 2 miles south of here, died on Thursday evening [14 Jan 1897] and was buried here Saturday afternoon.' At some point in time the Cedar Junction Cemetery was flooded and graves were lost.
