John Maurier Dobson was a Union Civil War veteran serving in Company G, 37th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was a member of Eugene GAR Post 7.
He was younger of two sons of Franklin and Violet Dobson, born in Morgan County, Indiana. He had an elder sister, Emily, and elder brother, Crawford, and four younger siblings, Eliza, Clarissa, Mary, and Margaret. At about two years of age, his family moved to Champaign Illinois.
He married Isabel Innis with whom they had five children.
He is buried next to his older brother Crawford Dobson (who also served in the Union Army of the Civil War) in the Eugene, Oregon, "Pioneer Cemetery" near the Veterans memorial.
