John Maurier Dobson was a Union Civil War veteran serving in Company G, 37th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was a member of Eugene GAR Post 7.

Fought against Price, under Col. White. John also served in the 3rd IL Cavalry, Company H. He was honorably discharged and mustered out on 04 Oct 1864.
He was the younger of two sons of Franklin and Violet Dobson, born in Champaign County, Illinois. He had an elder sister, Emily, and elder brother, Crawford, and four younger siblings, Eliza, Clarissa, Mary, and Margaret.
He married Isabel Innis with whom they had five children:
Howard Leslie Dobson, William H Dobson, Mable B. Dobson, Ida Dobson, and Nellie Dobson.
He is buried next to his older brother Crawford Dobson (who also served in the Union Army of the Civil War) in the Eugene, Oregon, "Pioneer Cemetery" near the Veterans memorial.
