Monte Bankhead age 96 passed away peacefully on June 23, 2015 in Norman, Oklahoma at the Veteran’s Center. Monte was born April 28, 1919, in Stigler, Oklahoma to Herman and Ruby Bankhead, the second son of three in his family. He graduated from Stigler High School in 1937 and was employed by Dobyns and Lantz Hardware Store. He married Joyce Elliott on November 22, 1941 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. They were married 51 years. He served in the 250th Field Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he returned to Stigler to raise a family with Joyce and to work for Dobyns and Lantz Hardware. Monte was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stigler for the 96 years of his life. Monte was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Elliott Bankhead and his daughter Linda Joyce Bankhead, his parents, and two brothers, Steve Bankhead and Keil Bankhead.
