Philanthropist and civic leader. Wife of financier and philanthropist Charles T. Beaird. Active in the national reconciliation of the northern and southern factions of the Presbyterian Church into the Presbyterian Church (USA), she was dean of the Presbyterian Women's Louisiana Synodical Training School. She co-founded the Juvenile Justice Program, now known as Volunteers for Youth Justice. In 1986 she established the Carolyn Williams Beaird Chair of Christian Ethics at Union Theological School in New York City, one of the few seminary chairs in the nation to be named for a woman. She also served on the boards of Austin College in Sherman, Texas, Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and the Johnson C. Smith Seminary in Atlanta. She also served on the boards of the Charles T. Beaird Foundation and the Shreveport Publishing Corporation.
