William "Bill" T. Strathman, age 82, of Chandler, AZ, passed away on June 19, 2015, surrounded by his children. Bill was born on December 28, 1932, the seventh of nine children of Joseph Henry and Appolonia (Fangman) Strathman. Bill attended Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School in Seneca, KS, graduating in 1950. Bill served in the United States Army at Ft. Benning, GA during the Korean War, after which he went to work in the family business with his father and brother, Robert at the Seneca Wholesale where he worked until 1973. Bill married Marceil "Marty" Rose Severin, in Axtell, KS, on October 20, 1959 and settled in Seneca, KS. In 1974, they moved their family to Deming, NM. There, Bill was a successful businessman owning a restaurant and clothing store. Marty predeceased him in 1977. After retiring from his businesses, he lived in Fallbrook, CA, Albuquerque, NM and Oceanside, CA until he moved to the Phoenix area in 2004 to be closer to his children. Bill enjoyed hiking and reading. In addition to his wife, Marty, his parents, brother Joe of Lee's Summit, MO, his sister, Betty Winterscheidt of Brisbane, Australia and his brother, Art of Topeka, KS preceded him in death. Bill is survived by his children, Maur (Toni) Strathman of Dallas, TX, Lisbeth Strathman of Salt Lake City, UT, Sabrina (Eric) Laukonen of Chandler, AZ, Tyler (Susan) Strathman of Chandler, AZ and Collin (Chuck) Zaffery of Chandler, AZ, 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and siblings, Mildred Jilka of Lawrence, KS, Robert (Grace) Strathman of Seneca, KS, Rose Mary Riley of Iola, KS, Lyle (Bernie) Strathman of Cedar Rapids, IA and Judith Oden of Lincoln, NE.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with Rosary to follow, at Queen of Heaven Catholic Mortuary, 1562 E. Baseline Rd., Mesa, AZ. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Faith Community, 3450 W. Ray Rd., Chandler, AZ on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 9:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research.
