Cornelius Wickoff was serving in Capt. David Berry's Company, when he was captured by the British near Muncy in Pennsylvania in early April 1779. His father (Peter Wickoff) and brother (Joseph Wickoff, 1760-1810) were also captured about the same time. His detailed account of time spent in captivity is recorded in Revolutionary War Pension File S11850 at the National Archives. Brother William Wickoff, also of Hopewell, provided an affidavit to support Cornelius Wickoff's pension application.
This is all that remains of Cornelius Wickoff's tombstone in the Hopewell Burying Ground. See also his wife Catharine's monument. Dates of birth and death were obtained from other sources. (bio by: jbancestors)
