Henrietta Thurman dies at 86

Funeral Services for Henrietta Young Thurman, 86, 470-13th East, an active civic affairs leader and church worker, will be Monday noon, 124-4th East. She died June 6, 1975 at her home following a brief illness.

Mrs. Thurman was a great-grand-daughter of Brigham Young. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as an officer in many auxiliaries. She also served as chairman and vice chairman of her Democratic voting district and worked as a traveler’s aide at the Salt Lake Airport.

Born March 15, 1889, in the Beehive House, Salt Lake City, she was the daughter of Gen. and Mrs. Richard W. Young. On July 18, 1912, she married Sam D. Thurman, a prominent Salt Lake attorney in the Salt Lake Temple. He died April 3, 1951.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Samuel D., former dean of the University of Utah College of Law, and Richard Y., both of Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Phil (Janet) Jacob of East Lempster, N.H.; seven grandchildren and three great-grand-children.

Also surviving are brother and sisters: Dr. Clark Young, Ralph E. Young, Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Burton and Mrs. V.J. (Connie) Dorton, all Salt Lake City, and Truman R. Young, San Francisco, Calif.

Friends may call at 124-4th East two hours before services. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
