Mary Helen Miller Clark, 87, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, June 15, 2015, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.

A funeral mass celebrating Mary Helen's life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Friday, June 19, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church beginning at 10 A.M. until 11:15 A.M. A private burial will be held in the Saint Aloysius, South Garry Owen Cemetery, rural Bernard, Iowa.

Mary Helen Phillips was born on April 7, 1928 in South Garry Owen, rural Bernard, Iowa, to Joseph and Janet (Penney) Phillips. She graduated from Maquoketa High School. She married Calvin Miller and to this union 8 children were born: Nancy, Ruth, Sheila, Russell, Greg, Penny, Howard and Joleen. They later divorced and she married Everett Clark in 1962 in the Wisconsin Dells. To this union 1 child was born: Dave.

Mary Helen had first worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa placing valves on engine blocks, and later worked in the food service department at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa. Lastly she worked as a proof reader at the Maquoketa Sentinel Press in Maquoketa for over 30 years.

Mary Helen was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas St. Raphael #1156. She was a volunteer at the Maquoketa Senior Center and the Jackson County Historical Society. She enjoyed collecting stamps, reading, playing bridge, and spending time with her family.

Those left to honor Mary Helen's memory include her 9 children, Nancy (Dave) Foster of Marion, IA, Ruth Strong of Watauga, TX, Sheila (Bill) Landers of Ely, IA, Russell (Kaylene) Miller of Cedar Rapids, IA, Greg Miller of Smithville, GA, Penny (Steve) Schnoor of Emeline, IA, Howard (Sharon) Miller of Oxford Junction, IA, Joleen (John) Boland of Park View, IA, and David (Lisa) Clark of Maquoketa, IA; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Dorothy (Elmer) Hasenmiller of Grand Mound, IA, Pat (Glen) Hotchkiss of Bettendorf, IA, and Pauline (Duane) Prew of Bonita Beach, FL; 2 brothers, Paul (Janie) Phillips of Succasunna, NJ, and Jim (Jan) Phillips of Iowa City, IA; a brother-in-law, Jim Ales of MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett, brothers Jack and Robert, and sisters Janet and Lois.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Mary Helen Miller Clark memorial fund has been established.
