Jacob Henry was born on 1 December 1815 in Montgomery County, New York, died on
22 September 1902 in Van Buren at age 86, and was buried in Gill Cemetery.
Elizabeth Ann Minerva Boyd married Jacob Henry SHIBLEY, son of Jacob B.
SHIBLEY and Elizabeth PARKS, on 12 February 1839 in Ralls County, Missouri.
Rev. Jacob Henry Shibley attended the "Old Hobbs School House" in
Montgomery County, New York. In 1840 he moved his family to northwest Missouri
in Adair County. He became a merchant and a miller at Shibley's Point. Henry was
also the postmaster at Shibley's Point.
He moved his family to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1857. Henry was a minister
of the Disciples of Christ. It was his dream to work with Rev. Robert Graham who
was preaching for this denomination and extending his faith with their
headquarters at Fayetteville. Rev. Graham founded Arkansas College, the
forerunner of Arkansas University. During the first winter in Arkansas, Henry
and his two older sons, all passed the teachers examinations and taught school
in and around Fayetteville.
Henry then moved his family Crawford County and bought a farm 4 miles east
of Van Buren, in the Neal community. Two of his sons farmed in the area after
serving in the Confederate Army.
Henry taught school and was a preacher with the Presbyterian Church. This
church became the Van Buren library. Henry is listed as the organizer of the
Crawford County Teachers Institute in 1870. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge
6 in Van Buren.
Henry kept a detailed diary/journal from January 20 1881 to November 28
1895, in which he collected and recorded genealogical information on the Shibley

to twenty-nine; females: 1 twenty to twenty-nine; no slaves; 3 total, 1 in
Elizabeth appears on the U.S. census recorded 22 October 1850 for Adair
County, Missouri. It reads: Henry Shibley, age 35, born New York, farmer. Eliza
Ann Shibley, age 33, born Kentucky. William H. Shibley, age 10, born Missouri.
John S. Shibley, age 7, born Missouri. Lemuel S. Shibley, age 3, born Missouri.
Elizabeth E. Shibley, age 1, born Missouri. 
The family appears on the U.S. census recorded 16 July 1860 for
Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. It reads: Henry Shipley [sic], age
44, born New York, farmer, $100 personal estate. Ann Shipley, age 40, born
Kentucky. William Shipley, age 20, born Missouri, engineer. John Shipley, age
17, born Missouri, in school. Smith Shipley, age 13, born Missouri, in school.

Township, Crawford County, Arkansas. It reads: Henry Shibley, age 53, born
Kentucky, farmer & teacher, $2000 real estate, $600 personal estate. E. A. M.
Shibley, age 48, born Kentucky, keeping house. G. W. Shibley, age 17, born
Missouri, farm laborer. A. B. Shibley, age 15, born Missouri, farm laborer.

Elizabeth's family appears on the U.S. census recorded 18 June 1880 for Van
Buren Township, Crawford County. It reads: Henry Shibley, age 65, born New York,
farmer, parents born New York. Eliza Ann Shibley, wife, age 61, born Kentucky,
keeping house, parents born Maryland. Jacob I. Shibley, age 19, born Arkansas,
works on farm. Albert Shibley, age 25, born Missouri, clerk in stork. May

After Elizabeth's death, Jacob was living with his son W. H. H. Shibley's
family on the U.S. census for Van Buren, Crawford County, recorded 27 June 1900.
