Author. His most notable work is the "Empire Trilogy" which includes "Troubles" (1970), "The Siege of Krishnapur" (1973), and "The Singapore Grip" (1978). All three deal with rebellion against British colonial rule. His other books include "A Man From Elsewhere" (1963), "The Lung" (1965), and "A Girl in the Head" (1967). He drowned in an accident while fishing.
