SMELCER, ROBERT TAYLOR, JR. - age 90 of Seymour passed away Monday, April 16, 2012 at his home. He served in WWII from 1942-1945 in Guam and Saipan, where he was a Staff Sergeant. Upon returning from active duty, he became a salesman for Deaver Dry Goods which later became William R. Moore, from where he retired as president of the company. He was a 50 year+ member of Sevier Masonic Lodge #334 and was an avid golfer at Holston Hills Country Club, where he was a member. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cora Bull Smelcer and Robert Taylor Smelcer, Sr., and his grandson, David Timothy Kinder. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 71 years, Floye D. Smelcer; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene Justice and Jim Wright; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Gene Flinter and daughter, Angie Humphreys. There are also six surviving grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was a former member of Burlington United Methodist Church and his current membership is with Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, where he was a very active member of the United Methodist Men's Club. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 19 at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, from 1:00-2:00 pm, with the Celebration of Life service immediately following, Dr. Darris Doyal and the Reverend Laura Rasor officiating. The entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Colonial Heights United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 6321 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920. Honorary pallbearers will be the J. Ray Stuart Sunday School Class. You may call at your convenience at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 4:00-9:00 pm.
