Shadow came to us as a rescue. He had been at the animal shelter twice, the lady we got him from said they had to move to an apartment, and if she took him back again, they would put him down.
I had just gotten over the lose of my pet friend, Adolph, and didn't want to go through having another dog, but Shadow had been so abused, and pitiful, I couldn't resist.
He had at least 8 breaks in his tail, he had scars and burned areas all over his body, but he was full of energy and love.
We gave him plenty of love, and more food than he needed, so he got a little portly.
A few weeks ago, he saw a cat in the yard, chased it and didn't realize he was coming to the end of his run. He smashed his face on the ground, and that started a chain of sneezing/nose bleeds.
He went days at a time, but if he started to bark excessive (UPS or FedX guys, he didn't like coming to our door) or would sneeze hard it would start.
This morning, he had been fine for days, but when we let him out to go potty, we have no idea if he hit his nose or not, but a puddle of blood was in the grass, where he was laying, and when he got up to come to the door the blood was pouring out.
We called the animal emergency and by the time Dave got him there he had bleed so much, he was weak.
We sure didn't want it to end this way, and I know we gave him a good life, he had a beautiful yard and his kitty and birdie friends to be with.
RIP Shadow, you deserve heaven.
