Harold Wallich, 89, a long time resident of Polk County, died June 12, 2006 at Luck United Pioneer Home.

Harold Louis Wallich was born February 13, 1917 to Louis and Elsie (nee Glassel) Wallich in LaFollette Township, Burnett County. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and continued as a Lutheran throughout his life. The only schools close enough for him to go to, the Roosevelt and Indian Creek Schools, were in Polk County, and his parents paid tuition for him and his sister to attend. In the early 30s, the family moved from the farm into the Cumberland area, and settled a few miles west of Lorain, where Harold completed eighth grade at the Mound School. He then went to work for his uncle, assisting him on a cream route and with farm chores. He later hauled milk and eventually operated the Four Corners Creamery.

He was married to Idella Johnson of the Town of Lorain on April 12, 1939, and they moved to the Town of McKinley, where he bought a farm.

On August 21, 1971, he married Erlice Alma (nee Nelson) Dueholm at the Bone Lake Lutheran Church, and they lived on the farm in McKinley until he suffered a severe stroke on January 2, 2000.

Harold served on the Board of Supervisors, as well as the McKinley Cemetery Board.

Erlice preceded Harold in death on March 20, 2006 at Cumberland Memorial Hospital.

Harold was also preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Inez Wallich Johnson of the McKinley area.

He is survived by one sister, Delia Wallich Carter of Westminster, CO, stepchildren Marie (John) Bazey of Cumberland, Dorothy (Harvey) Roberts of Luck, Gary (Betty) Dueholm of Turtle Lake, Allen (Kathy) Dueholm of Rice Lake, Patsy (Wayne) Shirley of Luck, and Roger (Mary) Dueholm of Cumberland, 20 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 16 at the Bone Lake Lutheran Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. [Obituary obtained on line 22 June 2006 from The Cumberland Advocate, Cumberland, WI.]
