Dad was a workaholic. He had to be doing something all the time. He took a three room house and made it a 10 room house. It was very hard for him to retire due to illness.
As children, we never went without anything we needed or wanted. Many weekends were spent camping at Raccoon Lake or the "Mouth of Jordan". One time swimming in the Vermillion river, dad dove in the water and hit his head. His neck was broken. After severals surgeries and months of rehab, he was fine. This was a humbling and life changing incident. Having to depend on other people to take care of him was hard.
Dad had fondness for Budweiser. I remember getting ready to go to my wedding and dad stuffs a beer in his pocket. The minute the ceremony was over, you could hear the tab pop on his Bud.
Every marriage has ups and downs. Despite the problems my parents had, my dad adored my mother. At the end of his life, he had many regrets. Being the stubborn man he was, I would bet he is up there making admends.
