A lifelong area resident, she was born June 5, 1929 in Ithaca, the only child of the late Theodore and Luella Perry Turk.
Helen was a homemaker most of her life, she enjoyed cooking, taking care of her large family and her afternoon soap operas.
Surviving are her seven children, Gerald (Joan) Carey of Homer; Carol (James) Marshall of Conway, SC; Terry (Martin) Marble of Cortland; Erwin “Ricky” (Marjorie) Murray of Springfield, MA; Brenda (Ricky) Rawson of Homer; Julie Brown (Ricky Evener) of McGraw and Lisa Thomas of Homer, as well as several loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Knapp in 1973; a son, Leslie Knapp, Jr. and a granddaughter, Tabatha Rawson.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer. Interment in Cold Brook Valley Cemetery will follow.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
Helens family will also receive relatives and friends at a luncheon at the Homer American Legion, 63 South Main St., Homer immediately following the services.
