Expired When His Life Passed--Funeral Services Conducted Last Saturday Afternoon
Chauncey Boardman, a life-long resident of the towns of Napoli and Coldspring died Wednesday, April 14, at the home of his son Otis, in Coldspring.
Mr. Boardman was born about one mile west of the village of Napoli, February 24, 1836. His father, Timothy, was one of the early settlers in the township. He married Betsie E. Higbee, October 17, 1861. To them were born six sons and two daughters: Alice E. Sprague of Loveland, Colo.; Willard J. Boardman, who died as a missionary in Africa, in 1902; Irving N. Boardman of Coldspring; Burt R. Boardman of Gowanda; Elton L. Boardman of Randolph; Otis R. Boardman of Coldspring; Lelia Boardman, who died at the age of 2 years; Leland J. Boardman of Houghton. There are twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The happy union was theirs until on May 24, 1917, his wife went to her reward in glory. During the last four years of his life he lived with his son Otis in Coldspring.
Chauncey Boardman was converted to Christ in his early married life, due to the Christian devotion of his wife in establishing family worship. Together they attended meeting whenever and wherever possible, always eager to do all in their power for the glory of God. They were charter members of the Wesleyan Methodist church of Napoli.
The funeral was held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the church mentioned above. Rev. Melvin Ellis, pastor of the Free Methodist church of Rushford, N.Y., preached the funeral sermon. Interment was made in Napoli cemetery. Bearers were sons--Otis, Bert, Irvin and Leland Boardman.
Those who attended the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Bert Boardman and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mitchell, Gowanda; Mrs. Hal Smith, Dayton, Ohio; Ellen Cotreal, Salamanca.
