Andrew Eugene (Andy) Buntyn, a long-time resident of Austin, died peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2013, after a brief illness. He was 95 years old. He is survived by his son, Robert, three grandchildren, Laura, Michael and Susan, and seven great-grandchildren, Alissa, Shane, Summer, Autumn, Sydney, Tabitha and Chloe.

He was born in Meridian, Mississippi on October 21, 1918, the last of the five children of Thomas Buntyn and Etha Collier Buntyn. His family moved to Tyler, Texas when Andrew was quite young. He grew up there and attended Tyler public schools, graduating from John Tyler High School in 1936. Then he attended a local business college and met Marjorie Adams. They were married on May 31, 1941, a partnership which lasted 68 years, until her death in 2009.

During the war years, he joined the Army Air Corps (now known as the Air Force) and served in the United States until his unit was transported to New Guinea in August, 1944. Later, his unit relocated to the Philippines, where he served until his return to the states in January 1946. In 1948, he began his career with the Texas Highway Department- THD (now the TxDOT) in Austin. In the years that followed, he worked as an investigator, and the family lived in Bryan and Houston. The family returned to Austin in 1966, and Andrew completed his career as a supervisor in the Correspondence Division. He retired from THD service in 1980 and enjoyed many peaceful years at his home.
