Mary A. Nolan was the first of eight children born to Patrick and Ellen Ann Warner Nolan on 2 Jun 1878 in Hamden, Ct. By 1900 she was working as a milliner. By 1910 she was taking care of her parents on the farm as the Irish tradition dictates. By 1920 her brother, Rev. Francis P. Nolan, convinced her and the family that he needed her as his housekeeper in Bloomfield. Kathryn, the youngest in the family, gave up her vocation and took care of their parents. Not long after the move, she met and married a parishioner of her brother's church, William Joseph Lagan. They adopted 2 children, Mary E. and William F. Lagan. Mary was active in her children's school and in Sacred Heart Church Ladies Guild. Her husband managed the local Metropolitan Insurance Office. She passed away suddenly at home on 1 Dec 1946 at 68 years of age. Mary was buried in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, the cemetery her brother founded.
