Navy Hospitalman (E-3) Alday was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 7th Regimental Combat Team, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), Camp Pendleton, California. Alday died of injuries sustained when the vehicle in which he was riding struck a land mine during combat operations against enemy forces. Zack grew up in a tiny Georgia town where everyone knew everyone. He attended Seminole County High School in Donalsonville where everyone remembered him as being very outgoing and very popular. He was a very good football player. He wasn't very big – 5' 9" and 175 pounds, but he played linebacker with heart. Zack graduated from high school in 2002 and joined the Navy in November 2004 as a Navy hospital corpsman, assigned to the Marines to provide medical assistance to the troops. He joined the military to make a better life and to serve his country. He felt that this was his calling and no one in his family could talk him out of it. Zack loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, water skiing, mud bogging and spending time with his family. He was full of energy and loved life. He couldn't sit still – he had to be outdoors doing something. Zack is survived by his 14-month-old daughter.
