Howard H. Herbold, 89, died Monday morning, May 22, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church in Newton with Rev. Howard Vrankin officiating. Burial will follow at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton, IA.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
He was born to Charles Albert Herbold and Laura Manning March 9, 1917 in Sanborn, Iowa. He attended country school in the Newton area. He was a resident of Newton all his life. Howard married Alice V. Masters on February 2, 1946 in Wathena, Kansas.
Howard is survived by his son, Hal Herbold of Des Moines, IA; daughter, Val Herbold Childers of Columbia, MO; one grandson, Eric Herbold Childers; half-sister, Charlotte Alexander, Theodosia, MO; sister-in law, Irene Herbold, Newton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Alice on March 22, 2006; two brothers, Roy Herbold and Glenn Herbold.
Howards interest were his family, photography, woodworking and furniture building, fishing, hunting, reading and a conversationalist. He retired in 1979 from Maytag Company as a machinist and Foreman. Howard was a member of the First Lutheran Church and served as a usher and delivered service tapes to shut-ins. He also had been in the US Army, 3rd Armor Division, World War II in Normandy, Northern France and throughout Central Europe.
