~~ Beloved Grandpa ~~
~ Wedding Anniversary October 20, 1921
Roscoe Pierce, 91 a retired farmer of Campbellsville,
son of the late: Robert Lee Pierce and Bettie Allen Pierce, was born in Taylor County, June 1, 1898, died at 7:50 a.m. Monday , November 27,1989, in Campbellsville after an illness.
He was a member of the Otter Creek Separate Baptist Church. He united in marriage to Mattie Ermine Brewer, who preceded him in death January 8,1943.
Papaw was a christian man, who believed in his work to God. After grandma died Papaw took on the role of being father and mother. My mom said he did a great job. He was a farmer all his life. I can remember when we had to peg the tobacco crop after the rain, sure took a toll on your back. Mom said in all her years as a child and adult, Papaw never had said a cuss word in his life. As for me , I have never heard him complain of nothing, nor a bad word. He only said good about people, and he always said your word should be better than your hand writing. I know growing up my mom never would wear Red, I ask her why, she said Daddy would not let us wear it cause it was'nt a good color. After Papaw passed Mom did wear the color red. Papaw did remarry, and the children got treated different. But when Papaw was around his second wife would'nt show how she really treated his children. My mom would not say nothing cause if she did, it would make it harder on her Dad. I shall always cherish my grandpa's memories, he was the greatest. Papaw said to forgive, letting go of the past that you cannot change; our family has done just that; we all have forgiven each other, and have come to love one another better. Now we make memories that will last a life time...
