DONIPHAN — Ronald P. Jones, 81, of Doniphan died Thursday, April 23, 2015, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

To honor Ron’s wishes, cremation has occurred.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Doniphan. The Rev. Joseph Faulkner will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island with a 1:30 p.m. committal service.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel in Grand Island, with a scripture rosary service at 7 p.m. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Ron was born April 15, 1934,in Logan, Iowa. He was the son of Ingvert L. and Katherine A. (Deemer) Jones.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Sandy Jones of Doniphan; a son and two daughters-in-law, Tom and Seane Jones of Edmond, Okla., and Janiece Jones of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tami and Tom Coyle of Castle Rock, Colo., and Teresa and Rick Kuproski of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren and spouses, Sidney Jones, Dan Coyle, Matt Coyle, Jennifer and Andrew Cerio, Jaci and Sam Puente and Michael Jones; great-grandchildren Bella and Ryder Cerio and Boston Puente; a brother and four sisters-in-law, Leo and Donna Jones of Portland, Ore., Juanita Jones of Papillion, Phyllis Jones of Vancouver, Wash., and Joanne Jones of Des Moines, Iowa, and a sister and brother-in-law, Bette and Bob Mercier of Omaha.

Ron grew up and received his education in Blair, graduating from Blair High School in 1952. He married Eleanor McManaman on Dec. 27, 1957, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Omaha. He received his bachelor of fine arts degree from Wayne State College in 1958. He was a band instructor and taught biology in Stuart for three years. He moved with his family to Hastings and taught at Hasting St. Cecilia for three years before moving to Grand Island. He taught at Grand Island Central Catholic until opening his music business, Ron’s Music, in 1966. He owned and operated Ron’s Music until retiring in 1996. Mrs. Jones died in September of 1988.

Ron married Sandy Beers on April 30, 1993, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. They lived in Doniphan.

Ron enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. He was an avid sportsman and loved to fish. He enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing and was an owner, racing his horses in Nebraska and the surrounding states.

He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Doniphan, and was a member of AA with 38 years of sobriety.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eleanor; sons Randy and Pat; brothers James, Jerry, Eugene, Bill, Thomas and Robert; and sisters Margaret Chaney, Katherine Caron and Phyllis Williams.

Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Central Catholic Foundation.
