Henriette S. Alway, a life-long resident of Susanville, died last Friday morning, March 10, 2006, a the Susanville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at the age of 85. She was born in the Willow Creek Valley, the second daughter and child of the late John and Anne Hagata, the founders of the Hagata Ranch, on April 11, 1920.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Fred, of Susanville; her daughter Karyn and her husband Bill Galetto, of Baldwin, Md.; her son Jay and his wife Robin Alway, of Redmond, Ore.; grandchildren Timothy Galetto, of Phoeniz, Md., Stacey Galetto, of Seattle, Wash., and Greg and Kim Alway, of Redmond; her sister Marie C. Simmons, of Susanville; her brother Frank Hagata, of Willow Creek Valley, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Josephine Hagata Haws and Marcel Hagata.
A graduate of Lassen High School, class of 1938, Henriette spent many years of her adult life working in the community. During World War II she was employed by the Paul Bunyan Lumber Company. She later worked for Wemple's Clothing Store and the late C.I. Burnett, M.D., family physician. She retired after several years of employment at the Lassen County Office of Education. She was life-long member of the Susanville Parlor of the Native Daughters of the Golden West and the Sacred Heart Church.
