James B. Baker
February 21, 1941 - April 18, 2015

James Barton Baker, was born February 21, 1941 in Pueblo, Colorado to Eddie Gibson Stewart Baker and Curtis Gordon Baker. He passed from this life into God’s hands, on April 18, 2015.

He grew up on the family farms in eastern Colorado and western Kansas.

He was the youngest of six children, and preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Warren Baker, Curtis Baker, Vivian Mierke, Velma Farmer, and Verna Pritchard.

As a young man he worked at a local grocery store and as soon as he was able, he joined the United States Marine Corp, serving four years. After the military he worked in a steel mill in Pueblo, Colorado; following that he started working in the grocery business and later managed National Tea Company, and Associated Grocer stores. In 1986 Jim and Jerry Baker opened the Country Kitchen Restaurant here in Wickenburg, which remains opened today.

Jim married Jan Dalton in 1963 and they had two children, daughter JoAnn Baker Romero McIvor, in 1964 and son William James Baker in 1967.

In 1980 Jim married Jerry Tolley and they were married until her death in April of 2010. In the past two years Jim’s life was blessed in his relationship with Lois Walters, who mourns his death with his family.

Jim was heavily involved in his church and community. He was a part of almost every Board and Committee at First Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg. He was a part of town government activities and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a life member of the Elk’s; as well as being a constant support of his wife Jerry’s involvement of Soroptimist International.

Jim is survived by daughters JoAnn McIvor (Bill), Linda Schloss (Larry), and Kim Swain; and sons Bill Baker, Kevin Tolley (Veronica) and Michael Sean Baker. Grandchildren include Tyler Schloss, Derek Schloss (Michelle), Heather Fritzenemier, Luke Romero, Stephanie Romero Macedo (Reyes), Benjamin Baker, Christopher Baker (Michelle), Jeremy Baker, George Garcia, Jenna Garcia, Jasmine Garcia, Taylor Tolley, Isaac McGuire, and Elijah McGuire. The great-grandchildren include Zachary Baker, Noah Baker, Nolan Patterson, Luca Schloss, Mila Schloss and soon-to-be baby boy Macedo.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg on Monday April 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials made in Jim’s name, be made to either First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg, or Hassayampa Elementary School.
