Amelia Edith Huddleston Barr, born in England, was the daughter of William Henry and Mary (Singleton) Huddleston. She married Robert Barr and they relocated to America, settling in Texas. After several years in Central Texas, the family moved to Galveston. Robert and their sons died in the yellow fever epidemic. Amelia and her daughters moved to New York and she began to write books as a means of support. She was a prolific writer of moral romantic tales, popular with young ladies around the turn of 20th century. In addition to more than 60 novels, she also wrote stories for magazines and poetry. In 1913 she published her autobiography "All the Days of My Life, the Red Leaves of a Human Heart".
