Hugh was the son of John Henry and Martha Noble (Burk) Sackett. He married Ethel Blanche Fisher in 1909, and they had four children: Vernon Hugh (1910-1910), Vance Earl (1910-1985), James Lee (1914-1991), and Brennis Ethel (1916-2009). He married Fannie Belle Firnekas in 1926 and they had four children: Janet, Loren, Gladys and Mary Genevieve 'Dottie'.
