Hazel Virginia Sears was born in Anne Arundel County, the tenth child of Thomas Sears & Ida Virginia King. She graduated from Annapolis High School and worked at St. John's College as a secretary for 15 years. She married Reverdy Mowbray Bowen on April 1, 1934 at Edwards Chapel Methodist Church. They lived at Three Mile Oak for 50 years; there they raised their three children, Carolyn Augusta, Linda Dell & Donald Mowbray. Hazel returned to work as a stenographer/bookkeeper and later financial officer for the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services. The couple moved to Carroll County in 1985. Hazel died in Westminster, Carroll County, MD. Hazel's parents, two siblings and numerous other relatives are buried at LAP Memorial Cemetery.
