Actor, Singer. He was born in San Gabriel, Jalisco, Mexico. He debuted at the Arbeu Theatre in 1916 in "El Barbero de Sevilla" as tenor. Soon, he moved to New York, where was discovered by Enrico Caruso. There, he played in the Metropolitan Opera House with Mary Garden in "Pelleas et Melisande." In the 30s, he worked in Hollywood and Mexico, in films such as "One Mad Kiss" (1930), "Hay que Casar al Príncipe" (1931), "El Caballero de la Noche" (1932), "El Precio de un Beso" (1933), "El Rey de los Gitanos" (1933), "La Cruz y la Espada" (1934), "Un Capitán de Cosacos" (1934) and "Don Gil de Alcalá" (1939). When his mother died, he entered a franciscan monastery under the name of Fray Francisco José de Guadalupe in Lima, Perú. After his retirement, he appeared in a few films for collect money for his order, such as "El Pórtico de la Gloria" (1953) and "Seguiré Tus Pasos" (1966). (bio by: José L Bernabé Tronchoni)
