LAWRENCEVILLE Joseph A."Jody" Furch Jr., 90, of Lawrenceville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton, NJ. Jody was born on May 31, 1924, in Princeton, NJ, to the late Joseph and Mary (Rousseau) Furch. He spent his childhood in Princeton before moving to Lawrenceville, NJ, in 1956. Jody retired from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 9, Princeton, NJ, after 35 years as a plumber. Along with his wife, Jody was the owner and operator of Varsity Liquors in Princeton, NJ, for more than 20 years. Although a member of the Church of St. Ann for many years, Jody was also devoted to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Princeton. Jody served as a gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1952, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He was proud of his service and was dedicated to the U.S. Marine Corps for his entire life. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, Trenton Detachment. After his military service and in his younger years, Jody was very active in the community. He was director of the Satellite Drum and Bugle Corps, Trenton, NJ, a member of Engine 3 Fire Company, Princeton, NJ, the VFW Post 414, Lawrenceville, NJ, and the Squatters Fish and Game Club, Princeton, NJ, just to name a few. Jody enjoyed entertaining and playing pinochle with his friends and family. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Betty, and two infant sons; his brother, David; sisters, Barbara Kuntz and Susie Mazza, and his daughter in-law, Juliette Furch. Jody is survived by three sons, Joseph "Jody" A. Furch III of Lawrenceville, NJ.; James Furch and his wife, Margaret, of Hamilton, NJ.; Thomas Furch of Anchorage, AK; and three daughters, Elizabeth Farletta and her husband, Richard, of Lawrenceville, NJ., Kathy Delorenzo and husband, Robert, of Surf City, NJ, and Michele Hamilton and her husband, James, of Hamilton, NJ. He was a devoted grandfather to Justin Furch, Stephanie Furch, Chelsea Furch, Matthew Farletta, Justine Farletta, Wendy Gomula, Jenna Delorenzo, Kristen Hamilton, Sara Furch and Jamie Hamilton. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and two brothers, Richard Furch of Washington Crossing, PA, and Frank Furch of Princeton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jody on Thursday, April 16, at 1 p.m. at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Rd., Lawrenceville. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Hopewell. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Rd., Lawrenceville.
