In the front of the book "History of Pella, Iowa and Vicinity" by K. Van Stigt--a short bio of the author: Kommer Van Stigt. Kommer van Stigt was born in Westmaas, South Holland, on August 8, 1837. He attended school in Holland for five years before coming to America in 1847. He left school at the age of twelve and commenced to learn the shoemaker's trade with his father. He married Johanna de Zeeuw, a native of Holland, on September 23, 1859 and died May 10, 1914 at the age of 76.
