Victorian Railway Accident

Among the victims of the Victorian railway accident were the Misses Alice and Amy Laffan—the former being the champion Irish danseuse of Australia.

A sad feature was the recognition of their bodies by their brother, who is in the Railway Department, and was as assisting in removing the dead and wounded. He had no idea his sisters were in the train, and received a great shock. The "Advocate" says:—Much sympathy has gone out to the Laffan family, Richmond, in the death of Miss Amy and Miss Alice Laffan. The young ladies were exemplary members of the Children of Mary Association, and the esteem in which they were held was shown by the presence of over 200 members of the Solidarity and of that of the Promoters of the Sacred Heart.

The deceased young ladies received their education at the F.C.J. Convent, Vaucluse, Richmond, and reflected in their lives the effect of the training received at the convent school. The remains were borne to St. Ignatius'
Church on Wednesday, 22nd ult. Quite a' large congregation attended, whilst the Very Rev. J. Hearn, S.J. (Superior), read the appointed prayers, assisted by the Rev. J. Mclnerney, S.J. (Ref Southern Cross Newspaper 1 May 1908)
