Winfield Cox, 77, Lima, Ohio. Previously from Rock Fork, Garrett, Kentucky. Succumbed Sunday morning, April 21st, 1968 at His Lima home from apparent heart failure.
Winfield was born on Jan. 12, 1891, on Rock Fork, one of twelve children, to the late William Jonathon (Jonce) and Eliza (Castle) Cox.
In 1908, He married Lura Lele Gearheart, who survives. They were later blessed with thirteen children. Winfield and Lura settled on Rock Fork Creek, near Garrett, Kentucky. He was a retired tobacco farmer, and coal miner.
Mr. Cox belonged to The Rock Fork United Baptist Church, on Rock Fork where He was ordained a deacon and twice served as treasurer. He also attended Lima Missionary Baptist Church in Lima, Ohio. He was tragically preceded in death by one son, Valis, and one daughter, Rebecca. Both Parents, William Jonathon (Jonce) and Eliza. Inlaws Adam B. and America Hayes Gearhart. Brothers, Paris Cox, James Cox, John Cox, George Cox and Bee Cox. A sister, Alice Cox Sexton.
He is survived by eleven children, (8 Sons), Bee (Mable) Westland, MI, Luther (Doris) Warrenton, VA, Dallis (Victoria) Garrett, KY, Graden (Ruth) Westland, MI, Ivory (Alice), Hobert (Hattie), Garland (Tommie), and Allen (Connie Lynn) Cox all near Lima, Ohio. (3 Daughters) America (Sidney) Slone, Matilda (Virgil) McKinnon, Clara (Bob) Ogle, also all near Lima, Ohio. Two Brothers, Melvin, and Patton Cox. Three Sisters, Sarah Cox, Amanda (Ballard) Hunter, and Ellen (Walter) Martin. Forty three Grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren. Surviving Nieces, Nephews and Cousins abound in the Cox family.
Funeral 9:30 a.m. Saturday at The Rock Fork United Baptist Church, on Rock Fork, near Garrett with Baptist Minister's officiating. In state beginning Thursday at the church until time of services on Saturday. Burial will be alongside family, in the Walter Martin Cemetery, on Mill Creek. Funeral Services are under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
