Jul. 4, 1877 Jackson Hinds County Mississippi, USA
James H. Boyd was mayor of Jackson 1842-43, 1850, and 1858. His home, The Oaks (aka Boyd House), is said to have been occupied by Sherman during the siege of Jackson in 1863 and is one of only a few structures in Jackson not burned down by Sherman's troops. A Find-a-Grave visitor submitted the following: "James Hervey Boyd died at his home in Jackson on July 4, 1877. The funeral was at the Presbyterian Church on July 5, 1877. No one has ever produced evidence that General Sherman occupied the Boyd House (now The Oaks House Museum). J. H. Boyd and his wife Eliza had six children. Two of them are buried in the Boyd plot near their parents: Susan Morehead Boyd Harris and Mary Boyd McGill."
