GEORGE M. DEWEESE
George Murrel DeWeese, son of Elbert and Margaret (Heaney) DeWeese, was born on a farm in Mendon, Missouri on Mar. 31, 1910. He passed away at his home near Licking, Sept. 28, 1982 at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 28 days.
He was united in marriage on Nov. 29, 1928 to Mattie Lee Clark and to this union three daughters were born, Melvalee, Georgell and Donna Jean.
Surviving are his wife of the home; his daughters and their husbands, Melvalee and Clarence Watson, Georgell and Jack Jackson, both of Licking, and Donna Jean and Jack Wilhelmson of Cheraw, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Judy Dablemont of Licking, Jan Hoemann of Fenton, Missouri, Steve Jackson of Chicago, Illinois, Sandra Jackson of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Ron Wilhelmson of Raleigh, North Carolina, Scott Wilhelmson of Crimson, South Carolina, and Lora Lee Wilhelmson of Cheraw, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Rod and Jake Dablemont of Licking; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; two sisters, Eunice DeRigne and Ada Belle Tilden; three brothers, Ed, Urban and Delmar DeWeese.
He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior when he was a small child. His faith and life was an unwavering witness to all who knew him. He was a member of the New Life Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the Advisory Board.
George was a man of many talents; always doing his best at whatever he endeavored to do. His latter years were spent working for Evans Funeral Home in Houston, where he was able to fulfill his life's desire of serving his fellow man that he loved deeply. He was always there when anyone needed help of any kind, whether it be spiritually or physically.
He left a precious teaching for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to stand firm on their convictions, never waiver from the things that are right, and mainly to trust the Lord as our personal Savior for our daily needs.
Funeral services were conducted at the New Life Freewill Baptist Church in Licking, Thursday, Sept. 30, 1982. He was laid to rest in the Licking Cemetery under direction of the Evans Funeral Home of Houston.
