Margaret Carter Broyhill
April 6, 1923 - March 27, 2015

Margaret (Peggy) Carter Broyhill passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on March 27, 2015 at Kirkwood Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, Lenoir, NC.

She was born in Wilkes County, NC on the 6th of April 1923 to the late Margaret and Randolph Carter. Peggy was delivered by her grandfather, Dr. George Hill Carter at “Hazel Hill”, the Carter family home.

Peggy was a graduate of Kings Creek High School and soon married James Clifton Broyhill.

Clifton and Peggy met while he was home for the weekend from Oak Ridge Military School. He was “smitten” while watching her in a school play.

She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Kings Creek and Blackstone Home Demonstration Clubs, and involved in Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corp., serving on the advisory committee, representing Caldwell District.

She was an excellent seamstress, southern cook, loved gardening, canning and flowers. Peggy was highly interested in political affairs both national and local, always advising her children who to vote for during elections.

She is preceded in death by both parents, Randolph Jones Carter and Margaret Cowles Hartley Carter, husband, James Clifton Broyhill, son Alan Carter Broyhill, along with siblings brother, George Hill Carter and sister, Nancy Randolph Carter Parlier. Also preceding her were sisters-in law Faye Broyhill Edmonds and Edith Ferguson Carter.

Peggy is survived by her children a son of Taylorsville, NC and two daughters of Lenoir, NC and a son of Broyhill; grandchildren one granddaughter of Park City, Utah, one of Little Rock, Ark. and grandson of Boone, NC; great grandchildren Gdaughter of Little Rock, Ark. One sister of Durham, NC. She is also survived by brother-in-law of Charlotte, NC, several nieces and nephews.

Service will be held at Greer McElveen Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Roger Underwood.

Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
