WAYNESBORO – Charles T. Leavell, 71, of Eastside Highway, Waynesboro, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at his residence.

He was born April 29, 1943, in Waynesboro, son of the late Fletcher and Edith Pannell Leavell.

“Tip” was an avid race car fan, with his nephew Joey being his favorite driver; he was also a Washington Nationals fan. He loved fishing, camping, and watching “Family Feud” on TV. He was an Army veteran and was employed by Virginia Metalcrafters for more than 24 years, while also working as an automobile mechanic.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia “Ginger” Degler, and brother William “Bill” Leavell.

Surviving are his wife, Alice “Duckie” Leavell of Waynesboro; brothers, F.C. Leavell (Brenda), John Leavell (Marge), and Eddie Leavell all of Waynesboro, and “Bud” Leavell (Pam) of Lawton, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Margaret Fitzgerald; sister-in-law, Tina Fitzgerald; stepchildren, Tammy Painter, Jennifer Bosserman, and Texas Ritter; grandchildren, Brittany, Leslie, Heather, Jacob, Michael, and Blake; numerous nieces and nephews; and his furry children, his cats, Biscuit, Sweetie, Butch, Buddy, and Sissy, and his namesake dog, Charlie.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at McDow Funeral Home by the Rev. Dee Flory. Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park, with honors by American Legion Post #340.

Active pallbearers will be Johnny and Joey Leavell, Norman Denny, Jamie and Chuck Jarvis, Jamie Cox, and Mike Myers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, at McDow Funeral Home.
