|Death: ||Jun. 15, 1864|
91 Ind, Co A. Killed in action June 15, 1864. Originally buried Pine Mt. Georgia.
1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 23rd Army Corps.
Listed in roster as Swartz and Schwartz. Listed as Frederick Schwartz in Book of Interments, Marietta National Cemetery. Possibly Frederic Schwartz, Dubois County, Ferdinand Twp, Indiana, 1860 census, as 91st was recruited from that area and Col. Mehringer was from Dubois county. In OR, Col. Mehringer commanding 91st Indiana reports 2 men killed and 6 wounded on June 15. Frederick Schwartz is one of the KIA. His death was mentioned in the diary of Lorenzo Holder who was also in Company A. Eli Easterwood was also reported as KIA on June 15 in his Service Record and Widow's Pension Record.
Another complication in sorting out the death and burial of Eli Easterwood is that there was an OR report written by Lt. Col. Butterfield of the 91st Indiana who had been assigned to the 45th Ohio on June 5 to temporarily replace Col. Runkle. His report (No. 315) reads almost exactly like the Mehringer Report. The Heading of the report states "Hdq. of Ninety-first Indiana" instead of Forty-fifth Ohio. There is a grave for Edwin B. Fisher, 45th Ohio. His death is accounted for in the 45th Ohio Roster published by the state of Ohio.
See Williams Family from Evansville, Indiana for a great timeline on the movements and action of the 91st Indiana.
