Thomas was the oldest son of William and Sarah Nichols Dandridge. He studied at the Virginia Medical College in Richmond, VA. and the at the
university at Charlottesville, VA.
He was in Texas when the Civil War broke out and he joined the Texas Rangers.
He was later transferred to Salisbury, N.C. where he headed a hospital there.
After the War he had a large medical practice in Madison, N.C.
