The accident occurred shortly before six o'clock.
Scroggins was driving a pickup which crashed head-on into another pick-up driven by a man from Mountainair, New Mexico. The other driver, whose name was not available, and E.B. (Jud) Ragland, who was with Scroggins, escaped with minor injuries.
Icy highways and poor visibility due to the heavy snowstorm were blamed for the crash.
The New Mexico pick-up, eastbound on Highway 60, had just passed another car and went into a skid when the pick-up which Scroggins was driving, westbound, crashed into it.
Scroggins suffered severe head injuries which were believed to have caused instant death. He was brought to Hereford in an E.B. Black ambulance.
Funeral arrangements had not been made this morning, awaiting the arrival of relatives. No further retails [sic] were available as The Brand goes to press.
