Obituary From The Joplin Globe April 14, 1974

Hugh McKenzie, 75, 2213 Harlem Ave., died at 9 A.M. Saturday at Freeman Hospital where he had been a patient since March 31. He had been in ill health two years.

Mr. McKenzie was born Oct. 26, 1898, in Cedar Point, Kan. He had lived in Joplin more than 50 years, moving here from Kansas. He farmed in Kansas and Neosho five years before going to work for Frisco Railroad. Later he was employed by Rogers Iron Works for more than 20 years, retiring in 1962. He was a life member of the International Association of Machinists Local No. 174 and a member of Empire Baptist Church. He married June Carman Sept. 14, 1919, in Joplin.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, John E. McKenzie, Carlton, Ore., and Larry McKenzie, Webb City; a daughter, Mrs. Jean Duffy, Walla Walla, Wash; a brother, John M. McKenzie, Carlton, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Edith Meyer, Ellenberg, Wash., Mrs. Hazel Bowersox, Tonganoxie, Kan., and Mrs. E. Maurine Allen, Santa Fe, N.M.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be announced by Parker Mortuary.
