Christopher Scott (Chris) Medford
(August 6, 1965 - March 9, 2015)

Christopher Scott (Chris) Medford, age 49, of Newport, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Newport Medical Center.

He was a 1983 graduate of Cocke County High School and a 1985 graduate of Lees-McRae College. He then went on to Gardner-Webb College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1989. He then returned home where he worked at the Newport Community Center for many years, and dispatched for E-911 as long as his health would permit. He played football for many years, from his childhood until he finished his senior year of College at Gardner-Webb.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Medford and stepfather, Jack Hudson, grandparents, James Clarence Scott and Eliza Scott Finchum, James and Laura Hensley, and Edgar Medford.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Medford Hudson, sister, Missy Medford, nephew, Josh Hall, step-brother, Billy (Joe Bob) Hudson and step-sister, Edie Hudson.

On behalf of the family we would like to thank Smoky Mountain Home Health, Covenant Home Care, Dr. George Shuchmanm and staff, Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, special thanks to caregivers, Toni Cate, Kay Gregg and Maxine Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, March 13, 2015 at Manes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 14, 2015 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Williams and Maurice Shults officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. The family requests that donations be made to the Newport Rescue Squad.
